My Stand Against EACOP: A Ugandan Youth’s Fight for Climate Justice
In the heart of Uganda, I, Sanya Ivan Elivis, have raised my voice against the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP)—a project that threatens our land, our people, and our future. As a member of Students Against EACOP Uganda, my journey began with bold actions: petitioning the Ugandan Parliament, the European Union, and KCB Bank to stop funding this destructive venture.
With every step, I’ve rallied communities, organized protests, and demanded accountability—driven by the belief that our youth deserve a planet worth inheriting.
This fight has come at a personal cost. I have faced intimidation, unlawful arrests, and was remanded to Luzira Upper Prison. These hardships shattered my educational journey, yet they fueled my determination. Rather than break my spirit, these trials strengthened my resolve to defend our environment and uplift the voices of those silenced by this project.
Still, hope endures. Every petition signed, every protest held, and every voice raised is a step closer to justice. I call on all Ugandans—and the world—to stand with me and Students Against EACOP Uganda. Together, we can stop EACOP and build a just, sustainable future.
Let’s turn our collective power into action—because our land, our lives, and our legacy depend on it.
